I hear u...this blog really speaks to pastors who left their pastorates to focus on books and speaking engagements ... and not those posted to other assignments in which case there will be a replacement prayerfully chosen...there is perhaps focus on size and numerical growth of congregation which causes today's pastor to be perceived by some as a clever "aloof" administrator... we pray for more grace. There is a role for the evangelist which is different from the one who still has to pastor the flock ...pastoring I think is much more demanding...just my thoughts...

Obviously, this is not the popular perspective of what it means to pastor. Too many pastors out there feel their ministries are not succeeding if they don't write books, have tv slots, travel allover the globe to minister etc.
But then again, would it be wrong to seek to reach a wider audience with the message of salvation? Except of course that that is the job of the evangelist. The way things are today, pastors are more responsible to the church organization than to the sheep they are called to lead. What is a faithful shepherd to do when he is posted away from the flock he has been tending by organizational restructuring .?

It is always a delight to hear you speak. I dare say it is ever fresh and spirit inspired.
In this my brief years as a disciple of our Lord Jesus Christ, I have realised that the greatest challenge we are confronted with as budding Christians is availing ourselves of the most basic of tools we have been given to empower the change and transform necessary in our lives. This tool is the Word of God! Very few people can actually claim they spend time reading the word not to talk of studying or meditating on it.
Many are just down outright lazy preferring to watch TV, gossip, etc. Thus the work which began with confessing Christ as our Lord sometime is truncated leaving many premature disciples. I dare say that its is the greatest tragedy to befall the Church today.
This is even more manifest in the very evident crisis of integrity prevalent around now. It spans from the very top to bottom of the hierarchy of the Church. We have more drama/glitz in most gatherings of "Christians" today than the true sharing of the Word. Let us return to the first principles of the Kingdom.

May the LORD continue to keep you, strengthen and embolden you to speak the truth always. Thank you sir.

It is always a joy to hear (or read) Dr Onuzo. I just love the analogy of the fake N500 in reference to the counterfeit Christian. It is so very true. The mark of geniune-ness is constant and perpetual self examination. monitoring and transformation that causes us to evolve more into His image. Too many 'christians' are too focused on examining , monitoring and trying to transform others. The more we are engaged in becoming more like Him , the less we notice the 'faults' of others. My daily struggle to become more like Him is a full time job for me.

I feel like the recession was very stressful, but is still not quite over. I think alot of people had to reevaluate their spending habits and realize what the things that are really important like god and family.
But i honestly feel that as soon as things get better, most people will go back to doing things, just like they had before.
