Fish for Sale

Nehemiah 13:16 There dwelt men of Tyre also therein, which brought fish, and all manner of ware, and sold on the sabbath unto the children of Judah, and in Jerusalem.

Christ said He will make us fishers of men. Men and women as they come to Christ are often likened to fish. Fish could therefore be a type that represents souls. It is not unusual to expect that evangelism will be commercialized. Everything that has value must have a price tag …

Acts 8:18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money

Sadly it is not everyone that is offered money that rejects it. Many have ways of receiving remuneration for what God is doing …enjoying lavish gifts from saints for the work God has done. This is not to say that we cannot be blessed for ministering to others … but moreso that we cannot obtain financial gain for the salvation of someone else. Another doctrine to fear is when we think God approves of us because we are financially blessed. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Our confidence should come when we study the word of God and we find we find our life lines up with the will and teachings of God, if we do His commandments.

By all means, do have a generous spirt and give …but do not try to buy graces or manipulate the one who must share the word of God …many affluent church members who are major givers will often go to the preacher after the sermon – to manipulate the word through praise and donations but ultimately through a disapproving comment.

Thoughts for Business and the work place
Salvation and the graces of God are not for sale

Suggestions for Prayer
Lord, help me to value the salvation that your beloved Son paid for with His dear life. Amen

As Nehemiah’s wall was built, so will we see a reconstruction in all that may appear in distress and in waste. Nehemiah trusted and feared God, putting his faith in the Almighty whose strength is limitless to exceed all our expectations. Look out daily for Nehemiah’s Wall in 2015 and do invite friends to subscribe to the free email or social media posts. I am praying someone with a burden to be used by God in building will receive a fresh vision and get the job done.

The Fish Gate

Nehemiah 3:3 But the fish gate did the sons of Hassenaah build, who also laid the beams thereof, and set up the doors thereof, the locks thereof, and the bars thereof.

This next gate to be built was called the fish gate because the fisherman of Galilee would bring their catch in through this gate to be sold. This has important symbolism. The first gate spoke of our salvation, the most important issue …the next speaks of our next role. After seeing that Jesus died for our sins, we must tell others about it. Their simple testimony of what Jesus has done in our lives qualifies us to be great ‘fishers of men’. But what has your business got to do with evangelism. It does. Let Christ shine in you and men will be drawn to Christ even through that business. Your Christ-like ethics and virtues will cause many to wonder and want to know your God.

This gate also is said to speak of the Church in the the apostolic calling where believers on fire for God sacrificed all and went out to turn the world upside down with the message of Jesus Christ

You can ask God to use your business and the testimony of Christ in your assignment in whatever sphere of life, to cause a great catch of fishes … your business can be a ship, fishing for souls … Christ will borrow your ship and provide you with instruments and He will draw the fish Himself to Him to be saved.

A badly run business that cuts corners with poor ethics is a reproach to Christ … Christ will not borrow such a vessel for soon it brings reproach to His glorious name. Be committed to kingdom virtues and ethics.

Thoughts for Business and the work place
God’s Leaders often think differently and are widely variant on how they manage ideas … but they all commit to high ethical standards.

Suggestions for Prayer
O Lord, use this assignment in business as a ship that Christ can borrow to fish for souls. Amen
