Eze 37:15 The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying, 16 Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions: 17 And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand.
God does not embrace competition and hostility. Division often leads to strife and bitter regrets. Once we are separated from evil and the world, brethren are to dwell together in unity. Unfortunately this is often not the situation …and from the times of the Bible, even the children of God were divided. God predicted that a time was coming when the two kingdoms of Israel and Judah will end their feuding and animosity … they will agree in love. Today many still carry sticks of separation and disunity. But there is a blessing that does not fall on marriages, homes, churches, nations until unity is realized.
Psa 133:1 A Song of degrees of David. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! 2 It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; 3 As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.
A united force are formidable to the enemy. The result of disunity is further portrayed. Ephraim becomes inflamed with envy that drives them to idolatry. Judah becomes a vexation to Ephraim … a source of troubles. But see what they achieve when they unite. They are unstoppable in conquest, gaining many spoils and victories causing the enemy to bow before them.
Isa 11:13 The envy also of Ephraim shall depart, and the adversaries of Judah shall be cut off: Ephraim shall not envy Judah, and Judah shall not vex Ephraim. 14 But they shall fly upon the shoulders of the Philistines toward the west; they shall spoil them of the east together: they shall lay their hand upon Edom and Moab; and the children of Ammon shall obey them.
Division in any mode is unwise and has its costs. Whether in ministry, marriage or even in ventures. The divided house is weakened. Aim to build bridges and to unite. God is especially kind to those who work to end cleavages and reunite warring brothers. The worst sections in perdition are reserved for those who fan the embers of envy and vexation amongst brethren. You can decide which role you will choose to play.
Let there be light, Lord God of hosts, Let there be wisdom on the earth;
Let broad humanity have birth, Let there be deeds, instead of boasts.
Within our passioned hearts instill – The calm that endeth strain and strife;
Make us thy ministers of life; Purge us from lusts that curse and kill.
Give us the peace of vision clear – To see our brothers’ good our own,
To joy and suffer not alone, The love that casteth out all fear.
Let woe and waste of warfare cease, That useful labor yet may build
Its homes with love and laughter filled; God give thy wayward children peace.
Prayer: Lord, Let us be instruments of unity and oneness amongst brethren and not of discord. Amen
