The Rock is precious as an incomparable source of strength, protection and comfort. The Rock is precious as a priceless gem to be valued and kept…but it is also a rock of stumbling and offense to the wicked. These two messages on The Psalm of the Rock and A Precious stone – A Stone of Offense speak on these issues….Enjoy.
The Psalm of the Rock
Psalm 62:1 Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved. How long will ye imagine mischief against a man? ye shall be slain all of you: as a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence. They only consult to cast him down from his excellency: they delight in lies: they bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us.Selah Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity. Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them . ] God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God. Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy: for thou renderest to every man according to his work.
This is a psalm in which the Psalmist writes under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit as concerning the Rock and what God is to Him …
A Precious Stone … a Rock of Offense
The text is taken from 1 Peter 2:7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
God recognises 2 categories of people…two species…two groups only…he does not see our colour, our education, our careers, our strengths and weaknesses. He deals with us according to which category we fall…there are no grey zones with God…many who want grey zones have not read the Bible…Things are black or white..clear, unambiguous and clear lines and boundaries are always drawn. One of the deceptions of modern times is that there are in betweens and grey areas…God has put things in his word to make it clear enough which category we fall…either YOU or THEM. The Children of promise and children of perdition…the saved and the lost…you and them…nothing in between. Those in the grey not-sure zones need to be sure…read the word for yourself…or remain with THEM. Our God is a Rock…but the rock is different to these category of people.
God bless you.
